Owner & Financial Advisor
Andy is the owner of Providence Financial. He and his wife Andrea are mid empty nesters with one child living at home and three children on their own. It can honestly be said that finances, business, and small-town life are woven throughout Andy’s DNA. When he was 6 his family left the east coast and eventually ended up in Pataskala, Ohio where his father was the VP of Finance for a small manufacturing firm until he retired. After a few years, his dad started looking for a way to keep Andy and his four older brothers out of trouble while teaching them responsibility, so he bought an old-fashioned hardware store in nearby Johnstown. Consequently, Andy’s formative years were spent either going to schools surrounded by cornfields, or working by cutting glass, sharpening chainsaws, and bagging nails sold by the pound for those who farmed those fields.
Andy attended nearby Ohio State University where he earned his degree while playing lead trumpet in the University’s marching band (the largest all-brass band in the world), working an occasional Saturday at the hardware store, and winning the heart of Andrea, who later became his wife.
After graduating with a BSBA in Finance, he was hired by Nationwide Insurance and spent his first 7 years in the home office learning many disciplines about business, financing and investing. Making his way to PEBSCO (a Nationwide subsidiary later renamed Nationwide Retirement Solutions) he began his training in retirement planning. Andy was promoted to Director of the State of Missouri Deferred Compensation Plan and the family moved to Jefferson City. After serving in that position for several years, Nationwide brought Andy back to Ohio to oversee the compliance and sales functions of 90 investment advisors. As both their sales manager and boss, he and his staff of attorneys and product and industry experts helped to ensure that these advisors were meeting their sales goals while safeguarding their client’s interests.
But, two years later the phone rang and Jefferson City beckoned once again. Andrea was offered a position as children’s pastor at a local church. After much prayer and consideration, Andy ended his 15-year career with Nationwide and the family returned to Mid Missouri, where he worked with Wallstreet Group overseeing their 401(k) plans.
Now confirmed Mid-Missourians, Andy has been operating Providence Financial since 2009. He bought out his initial business partner in 2015 and continues to see steady growth in both clients and services offered.

Sharon is our introductions manager, making sure you feel at home while you get to know us during our initial meetings, by blending her love of people with her accounting and business background.
If you’ve ever experienced the trepidation of the first day at a new school, you likely experienced the warmth of that one super friendly student that helped you find your locker, your homeroom and probably ate lunch with you. The person that fills that role at Providence Financial is Jefferson City native Sharon Cardwell. She has mid-Missouri woven into her DNA from spending long summer days on her grandparent’s farm near Hermann, filling her childhood with memories of pinochle and strawberry picking with Grandma and riding the tractor with Grandpa. Her entrepreneurial parents taught her hard work and business acumen through the many businesses and rental properties they owned throughout their careers.
After graduating from Jefferson City High School, she earned an accounting degree from Southwest Baptist University, which opened the door for the internship where she met her future husband, Allan, also a Jefferson City native, with whom she shares two children and one Havanese dog (although it is rumored that she shares the children more readily than the dog).
Upon returning to Jefferson City she worked as an accountant for Scholastic and the Missouri Baptist Foundation before following in her parent’s footsteps to start her own scrapbooking business with Creative Memories, which she ran for over a dozen years. Her love of getting to know people and helping them tell their stories propelled her to the top 1% of the sales force, earning 9 trips along the way (her favorite was a Mediterranean Cruise).
Her business acumen combined with her friendly, affable nature ensures you are comfortable as you go through the process of deciding if we are the right folks to help you guide your finances in your retirement years.

Director of Operations
Mary Ann joined Providence Financial as an administrative assistant, and works tirelessly as our Director of Operations, with many years of experience working with customers.
The life and achievements of Providence’s Director of Operations Mary Ann Semkin are a testament to the dividends of life in a close-knit community. When at age 4 she needed experimental brain surgery, her hometown of Osceola, MO hosted “Mary Ann Day” and raised the funds to make it possible. The success of that operation propelled her into a life that has compounded Osceola’s generosity to her many times over.
Working many of her teenage summers as a counselor at Wonderland Camp in Rocky Mount, MO, she took responsibility for the daily care of campers with developmental disabilities and helped them live life to the fullest. Following her senior year at Clinton High School, she embarked on a 9-day tour of Europe before beginning her higher education at Rockhurst College in Kansas City. Once again displaying her love and eagerness to help others, she worked as a patient affairs coordinator for KU Medical Center while also filling volunteer responsibilities in Social Work and the burn unit.
Shortly after completing her bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1996, she married Todd Semkin who had also recently completed his Master’s Degree in Vocational Counselling. Settling in Clinton, MO, MaryAnn managed the Clinton Senior Center organizing home delivered and onsite meals as well as the volunteer staff.
In 1997, they moved to Jefferson City where Todd began working for the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education in Vocational Rehabilitation and MaryAnn became a Customer Service Representative for Nationwide Retirement Solutions (PEBSCO), where she met Andy, who was the Director.
Upon the birth of their son Jackson in 2002, she began a stint as a full-time wife and mother. When Jackson entered school, Mary Ann accepted Andy’s invitation to join Providence Financial as an administrative assistant.
